Formed in 1981 by lead singer and guitarist Johnnie Dee, the band “Honeymoon Suite” has stood the test of time over its nearly 4 decade run. With still its mostly original lineup intact, members Johnnie, Derry Grehen, and Dave Betts share their history of recording 12 albums, multiple hit songs at radio, and getting their music in such films and TV shows as Lethal Weapon and Miami Vice. They’re in the studio to talk about their newest project that they’re recording in Nashville with producer and Smash Mouth member Mike Krompass.
The band’s self-titled debut album, produced by Tom Treumuth, was released in June, 1984. The album featured four charting hits in Canada: a completely re-recorded version of “New Girl Now,” “Burning In Love,” “Wave Babies,” and “Stay In the Light.” All were written by Grehan. “New Girl Now” was also Honeymoon Suite’s first single to reach the top-50 in the United States.
